What size wooden fence panels do you need?
Most people don’t have to think about buying fence panels more than a couple of times in their lifetime, so they have no need to go measuring fence panels very often.
When it comes to ordering your new garden fence measuring your fence panels can actually have a little more to it than you might think, so we thought we’d take a moment to give you the benefit of our experience in the area.
6ft fence panels
The first thing to be aware of is that most standard fences use 6ft fence panels. By that, we mean 6ft wide. This means that the chances are that your concrete posts will be placed 6ft apart, so you if you need to buy just one new panel you can, in theory.
Of course, we can’t say for certain that your fence posts have been placed to accommodate standard 6ft fence panels. People can install a fence any way they like! It’s always worth measuring to check that your fence posts
1) Were installed to accommodate panels 6ft wide and
2) still do! If your fence has broken then badly installed posts, or posts that have shifted over time could be the cause.
We are able to create wood fence panels of almost any size but if your posts are out of alignment or have shifted it is important to spot and remedy that. If you find yourself in doubt, we are happy to help you in measuring your fence panels.

Measuring fence panels for a brand new fence
If you are planning to have a brand new fence installed and you’re measuring how many fence panels are going to be needed, things can get a little more tricky. You will need to take into account the wide of each panel, of each post and also of things like gates and any building or similar that will interrupt your perimeter.
It is unlikely that you will simply require an exact number of 6ft fence panels; life just isn’t that neat!
When you’re measuring for your fence panels, you might find fiddly bits of the garden where half panels are going to be needed, or where you can’t decide exactly what to do for the best.
We’re here to help.
In fact, if you are measuring for a whole new fence we’d advise that you contact us before you do. It might be a whole lot easier for us to simply do the work for you. If you do decide to do it yourself we can certainly talk you through the fiddly bits!
